Improving the Camera Recording Quality

Post by roobarb! »

If you've ever thought the recording quality was a bit ropey on the camera, here's an easy way to make it better.

If you use your browser to bring up the camera's web page (as you may have done to set up the wireless configuration) and log in on the Administration link (default username is 'administrator' with no password) you will see a 'Video & Audio' button under the 'Video & Audio' section on the left. Click this and it will give you the settings.

There are two areas for setting the same options for two different stream services; MPEG-4 Settings and MJPEG Settings. The hub uses the MPEG-4 stream (while the camera web page uses MJPEG) and I have mine set to:

Resolution: 640x480
Fixed Quality: Normal
Max Frame Rate: 8 fps

This gives a nice balance between picture quality and file size on the AlertMe servers. I find the defaults are a bit too low quality for my liking.
Alerty - you could control your AlertMe system with my third-party app for iPhone and iPod Touch. Used to be available on iTunes!

Thanks a lot for this info. I also wanted to ask that installing the ip cameras with DVR also helps in getting better video and image. Is that true?
