Registration and Activation

Post by roobarb! »

Hi all,

You may have noticed over the past few months that this forum has been hit pretty hard by 'kitchen spammers'. I don't know about you, but my kitchen is pretty much fine right now, and I wouldn't come here to learn about getting a new one.

In an effort to trim the spam, the forum now has user account activation set up. If you wish to register, go ahead and I'll receive a notification - I'll activate your account pretty quickly under most circumstances. Hopefully this will mean people can actually use the site again, instead of being lost in a sea of useless links.

Hope this helps, and if you do need a new kitchen, I'm sure there's a local supplier. I wouldn't buy from a spammer. :)

After an incredibly long period of time, I've finally managed to get a reasonable spam prevention system working on this site. The version of phpBB I'm using right now is pre-release, so there are a few rough edges, but it means you can now sign up and post without requiring a lengthy wait for me to notice your account needs activating.

It looks like the kitchen spammers are back!

If any help I am happy to be a assistant moderator and delete any old spam?

I note there is little left online with regards to AlertMe support and this forum is pretty much the only place.

I run the website, smartofthehome.com and I do intend to try and re-vitalise what interest remains for AlertMe now its younger cousin Hive is around.

If my offer for moderation help is of interest please message me.

Thanks - it might be a good idea! I'm rather at a loss as to how people manage to keep these phpBB boards clean, particularly when nothing seems to stop the account registrations of the spammers.

Leave it with me a bit and I'll see if I can sort it out.
