Re: Lowe's AlertMe System
I love the fact Iris is all heavily about security.... yep that think that AlertMe seemed to abandon in favour of going green. Good to see someone else thinks security is a good use of it too, I hope AlertMe pay attention.

Re: AlertMe Hub - Yes, it's Linux
I'd guess that depends on whether a) they've made any changes and b) whether what they changed was GPL'd in the first place, and finally c) they've been asked, and refused.
I'm unsure if all those criteria have been met yet.

Re: Major problems at AlertMe
Similar to you, last incident I think was Tuesday, hub dissapeared and reappeared later (a few hours as I recall). No internet problems (checked and that was working), so odd, but also not great that the SIM card backup didn't kick in either.

Re: Major problems at AlertMe
Look at who's running the show now, ex-bosses of Tiscali, a nice big ISP. They're never going to worry about individual customers, we'll just be a number (as in "number of existing customers") on a graph and a source of income. Provided they can sell to new customers and exploit new market...

Re: Major problems at AlertMe
Looking at post times etc, looks like it was down for in excess of 2 hours. Regardless of the cause it's pretty much unacceptable. This isn't ADSL, or the milkman, this is supposed to be either a home security system, or a home automation system. In both cases it needs to be working 100% of the time...

Looks to be down again. Can't log in, just hangs. Same on iphone app.
Logs suggest it started about an hour ago.
Not good, pain in the arse.

Re: Major problems at AlertMe
Looks like they have the same problem again today, hub emailed at 3:20am saying offline, all internet fine, but can't log in to secure.alertme.com This is getting a bit troubling for what is fundamentally something they want running your whole house! Not good when for in excess of 3 hours it can't a...

Re: Configuration load failed??
I don't disagree on the faulty hub theory. However when I started with my system I got nearly no errors, as the system has grown (still nothing like yours, perhaps 1/3rd the size), the number of errors has gone up. Now it's almost a certainty, but if left it sorts itself out eventually. Keep pesteri...

Re: The New Dashboard that never was!
It's not all bad. We get the "Smart Dashboard", from the classic dashboard, it's the icon of the computer screen, top right under the "my Account" menu item. I think it's the dashboard the energy only hubs get, and it's notionally the same as the British Gas one.... EXCEPT - It d...

Re: Major problems at AlertMe
Yep, same issue, through the night, on off on off on off etc. etc. I was up early enough this morning to witness the hub offline. Network was up, internet ok, could even go to secure.alertme.com, but hub offline (and not on GRPS either). Rectified itself a few minutes later. In a way, hung by their ...

Re: Hub constantly goes offline
I did have a lot of problems with the hub, but not quite as you describe. For me, if I ever had to reboot the router (Draytek 2820, then Sonicwall TZ210), the hub would stay offline. The typical scenario was losing my net connection, router rebooted, hub stayed offline (and I didn't notice) for days...

Re: AlertMe Hub Firmware
As I found out, it can be even worse than that, as AM throttle API connections.... in reality this means you can only check on statuses of things every so often. For example, one app I wrote checked every 10 seconds as to the power being used, any less than that and the API would lock me out. AM are...

Yep, that's the firmware I'm on currently also. To be fair since I moved to BT Fibre, I've not really had many outtages to test it with, but previous months/years weren't as great. Hopefully it's now sorted.

Re: GPRS Signal - How's Yours?
Unfortunately I've find GPRS to be one the weak points of the system. Considering it's single purpose, and despite always having a signal, it's rarely actually worked correctly. Either it didn't fail over to GPRS when an internet connection was lost, or it didn't go back to it's normal broadband whe...

As there are no examples for .net coding, I thought I'd share what I learned about using the API in .net. Please take the following as purely a hint if you've no idea where to start. The simplest little program, but one I use twice a day! It allows you to set your alarm to Night mode, and take it back out. http://www.uu3.co.uk/downloads/ArmDisarm.zip It's a simple command line program so you could conceivably use it for may things, but I use it to auto-set my alarm to night mode...

Ok, second up, a small application to arm the alarm (Away) when any number of the keyfobs have left the building (can be set, to one, two or three). This is slightly more flexible than the site's all or nothing approach. An example would be if, like me, you have a spare keyfob, but don't power it of...

Ok, a very quick and simple application to turn the smartplugs on or off. Re: Going back to original security system!
I suspect their statement is half true. I suspect they got all the info, support and help they needed for AM while also getting another firm to develop the devices. And I suspect that while they didn't make them, AM helped BG every step of the way, probably even changing the website and server softw...

If you use your old link to the old alertme forums, it helpfully tells you how many new customers they've signed up each day. 8 so far today for example. Re: Going back to original security system!
So the long and short of it seems to be: - New interface, 7 months away, at best. - No new devices. At all. So as already mentioned, either - BG have taken the AM stuff, and run with it themselves (ie. behind AM's back), or - AM have assisted BG and are just spinning us all along. I suspect the late...

I've got mine all from Ebay of late, not that they were that cheap.
The thing that made Ebay cheaper was the lack of the hefty AM delivery charge. Don't forget that when you're buying from AlertMe.

Re: Going back to original security system!
I'm sure technologically they'd work, but I suspect there will be some artificial reasons it won't. Such as either the interface not working with them, or AlertMe support not supporting them. As a quick expirement I tried logging into AlertMe via the BG link, using my alertme u/p, and unsurprisingly...
